Updated: Aug 17, 2022

There’s no dessert more popular than a delicious mama-made pecan pie. It’s the sample at every family dinner. Now imagine a delicious pecan pie.....with chocolate chips. This takes it to the next level. Take this dessert to your next family dinner, thanksgiving dinner, or Christmas dinner and everyone will be raving about your dessert. And it just happens to be a very simple dessert to make.

The recipe today makes three pies (why only make one?). The original recipe my momma gave me makes one and a half pies. I just doubled the recipe and made three.

Ingredients:

Karo Syrup - In this pie we are using light syrup. Click here

Eggs- I used large fresh eggs from a friend. If you are using fresh eggs, make sure your eggs are uniform in size.

Sugar- Granulated sugar, is just regular sugar. Click here.

Butter- If you’re new to cooking you make not know a few things about butter. People use the term butter interchangeably with margarine a lot of times. There is a difference, in my experience, it can alter your baking time. I’m using margarine in this recipe. Another thing about stick butter, it has the measurements directly on the side of the packaging. Click here.

Vanilla Extract- There are some ingredients and some recipes, you want to buy the name brand. This is not one of them. Save yourself some money and buy the off-brand. Click here.

Pecans- A lot of pecans pies have whole pecans in them. But to make it taste better use chopped pecans. It mixes into the syrup mix better and you’re able to enjoy the whole pie in each bite. Sometimes the bags of the whole pecan cost a little less. Save yourself money by buying the whole pecan and chopping it yourself. Click here.

Chocolate chips- Milk Chocolate is the chocolate chip I use in most of my recipes. I better this ingredients difference sets my desserts apart from other people’s desserts. Click here.

Pie crust- This type of pie requires a baked crust. You can make your own or buy a frozen one. Always double-check to make sure your pie crust isn’t broken, they break as easily as eggs. Click here.

Let’s Bake

The first thing your want to do is preheat your oven to 350°. Next, melt your butter, make sure it’s melted completely before you mix anything in with it. Up next is your 2 cups of sugar, mix it in with your melted butter. Add in your eggs, some people mix their eggs before adding them with other ingredients. Add in your Karo syrup, and mix in well before adding vanilla. Last to your mixture is your pecans. Fold them in, making sure all the pecan are nicely coated in the syrup mixture. Add your chocolate chips into your pie crust (do not add chocolate chips to your mixture). Evenly divide your mixture between your three pies. Bake at 350° for about an hour. (You can bake all three pies in the oven at once).

Once your pie has completely cooled. You can freeze them. They fit perfectly into a gallon-size freezer-safe zip lock bag. They are perfect to make ahead. Once you are ready to serve them simply take them out of the freezer and let them thaw.
